Hiring: Web/Graphic Designer


Established, fast-growing regional firm based in Hampton Roads looking for a multi-talented designer who’s proficient in online and offline design.

Position Title: Web/Graphic Designer
Reports To: Vice President of Marketing

Job Summary
The Web/Graphic Designer’s primary responsibility is for the design and implementation of dynamic web pages/sites, utilizing industry standard CMS platforms such as DotNetNuke. The Designer will design, develop, test and deliver websites, applications and components. They will also be responsible for maintenance and ongoing design of websites and marketing materials.

Additional responsibilities include designing graphics for on and offline marketing materials which include, direct mail, ads, fliers, coupons, newsletters and instructional materials.

Best practices and design methods will be utilized to insure project success. The Designer will have the ability to create web applications and components from the requirements stage, through design and production deployment.

This position requires experience in web design, graphic design, layout, scripting, programming, development including compatibility and seemless integration with various technologies such as, but not limited to, Java and CMS platforms. Experience in SEO and SEM is also desired.

Responsibilities
  • Develop original concepts and designs taking into account client opinions, likes and dislikes.
  • Develop new web applications, including graphic design, site navigation and content layout.
  • Determine all coding requirements for site creation to include forms and specialized scripts.
  • Maintain and enhance existing web applications.
  • Perform complete testing of web applications.
  • Develop and enhance graphics used in digital and print media.
  • Must remain abreast of technological advances in the field and be able to identify areas of use in the organization.

Required Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • Experience in developing websites and applications, minimum of 2 years.
  • Solid understanding of navigation and GUI.
  • Front-end and and some back-end development experience.
  • Practical experience in development of HTML, JavaScript, CSS, SQL, Perl, graphics creation with Photoshop, Illustrator, (Adobe Creative Suite), and multimedia creation with Flash.
  • Practical exposure and/or experience with some or all of the following: Java Server Pages and Java, XML, ASPX, MS SQL Server, IIS or Windows Server environments.
  • Understanding of and experience in corporate branding, layout, color theory and typography in both print and digital media.
  • Knowledge and experience with cross-browser and platform issues (IE, Firefox, Safari, Chrome).
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Desire and willingness to work in a collaborative, innovative and team-focused environment.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects/tasks of varying complexities, meet deadlines and work well under pressure.
  • Self motivated, detail oriented and organized.
